Assistance for seniors
Meals on Wheels Greater San Diego will not be delivering meals in North County today due to evacuations and road closures. James A. Johnson, president and CEO of Meals on Wheels, said North County operations in San Marcos have been temporarily moved to Old Town. South County deliveries tomorrow will depend on whether the Harris fire moves toward Otay Ranch. More information on Meals on Wheels is available at (800) 5SENIOR (573-6467).
The county’s Health and Human Services Agency will open multiple local assistance centers for seniors today at locations to be announced.
The agency’s Aging and Independence Services continues to operate, although facilities in the evacuation areas have been closed. Tom Christensen, spokes-man for the Health and Human Services Agency, said the temporary service centers will be open in areas where they are need-ed and where they can be placed safely.
The agency also has staff at several evacuation sites. Christensen said the location of assistance centers will be posted today at sdcounty.ca.gov/hhsa
