Child care centers

Emergency child care will be offered today at five San Diego Unified School District Child Development Centers for district families, students and employees, as well as emergency workers, including first responders and health care providers:

According to Linda Zintz, communica-tions supervisor for the San Diego Unified School District, the centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis until they reach capacity. Children must be age 2 (potty-trained) through age 12. No transportation will be provided. Food will be provided. Please call the individual center for availability.

Zintz also said the San Diego district will not offer care in evacuation areas and urged families to check with their individual school districts to see if any sites are open for emergency workers or others.

Debbie Macdonald, executive director of the YMCA Childcare Resource Service said before-and after-school Y programs at schools countywide will be closed in evacuated areas and that it is best to contact your neighborhood YMCA for specific information.

All Neighborhood House Association Head Start sites will be closed today.
